The Kodak ESP includes an internal memory chip that provides you with information about the state of your printer, including the amount of ink left in each cartridge. Although the ink levels that are reported in the Maintenance menu of the printer’s on-board screen are usually accurate, the chip can experience errors.

FREQUENTLY shuts down with error codes & driver has to be uploaded again each time. I am not a novice.extensive desktop publishing with different types of printers! Previously owned Epson & HP's over last 20 years with few problems other than basic wear & tear, including heavy classroom use of lower end models. Bought Kodak for individual use as I am retired. Good print quality, looked forward to reduced printing costs, but can't seem to get there. Donating & buying a small, similarly featured Epson.
Huge disappointment that driver continues to fail.annoyance & time waster. Not worth advertised savings. My reason for purchasing this printer was that my 3 year old, $39 LexMark printer was out of ink and I could buy another printer for the same cost as replacing the ink cartridges in the LexMark. I chose Kodak because I figured they would offer nothing but good quality products. Plus, the ink cartridges were very inexpensive.
I was totally disappointed. The paper feed was uneven, causing the paper to crumple which resulted in constant paper jams. Along with the jams, the printer would give the error code for paper jams even after all the paper had been removed. It would also give an error code saying the printer was out of paper when it wasn't. Also, although my computer recognized the printer, the printer would not send print commands wirelessly. After I returned it to Walmart, I was talking to another customer while picking out a different printer. She said that the reason the ink was so priced so low was because it ran out twice as fast as regular, higher-priced cartridges.
This was my first experience with Kodak printers and will probably be my last. I bought this printer thinking that Kodak, of all manufacturers, would make something that printed awesome photos. This thing jams up every time I try to print ANYTHING. Just setting the thing up to work wirelessly was a total pain. Then when I tried to print a quick receipt for something I bought online, it jammed so many times that I gave up and went to bed.
I got the thing going in the morning and was somehow able to make it work for that one piece of paper. At first, I thought I just needed to buy better paper; maybe the cheapo paper isn't good for the nice Kodak machine. Then, I tried printing a photo on 4x6 Kodak paper. I loaded more paper behind it. Took it out, tried 8x10 paper. I wasted about 20 sheets of expensive paper trying to print out photos to make Christmas cards.
This piece of junk is going back to the store first thing in the morning!!! I've owned printers from several brands through the years, and this printer ranks the worst. Rear paper feed only. I've never been a fan of a rear-feeding printer due to the potential for paper jams, which happens infrequently with this printer. You won't get anywhere near the number of printed pages that are promised with the various cartridges.
It doesn't matter how you tell it to print with regards to quality. It'll still spit out too much ink. This is the only printer I've ever had that completely stops printing if one of the ink cartridges runs out; you are forced to go out and by another one on the spot. And the software doesn't monitor the actual ink levels; only the number of print jobs that pass through regardless of print quality. My color cartridge still had ink in all three wells when it was supposed to be empty. And forget trying to refill the cartridges.
There's no way currently to reset the chips on these. This printer with its cheaper, bigger cartridges prints out only half the pages that my older HP Photosmart printer can handle. And that printer's cartridges are half the size of Kodak's! Epson was slammed by a class action lawsuit a few years ago pulling these same stunts. It's only a matter of time before the same happens to Kodak. What ever you do, do NOT be fooled into the idea of Kodak's cheaper ink cartridges. I've learned my own lesson and will stick with HP from now on.
This is hands down the worst printer i have ever bought. I had an hp that i thought was bad, but i miss it now. They pitch kodak printers by saying that they save on ink.but is it really saving when it runs out twice as fast as other printers? 3 pages printed (test page included) and it's down to 90%! I write this after my second time using it. I had to reset my network connection (no easy feat in and of itself) to get it to print.
I tell you, i will not be chinchy ever again when it comes to buying a printer. I will now do research (something i usually do obsessively) and not let a low price or a gimmick grab my eye. I would say shame on kodak for putting out this complete and utter tripe, but the shame all falls squarely on my shoulders, for having not done my homework!
